The following are the perceptions that many Canadians hold concerning immigration. These are common misconceptions that need to be addressed.
POGG first discussed the groundswell of public concern over immigration into Canada in September, 2007 and invited Mr. James (Joe) Bissett to address their November meeting. POGG then decided to produce a paper on immigration to inform and encourage public debate and, in so doing, encourage changes in public policy. From January to April, 2008 a POGG committee considered many of the challenges facing Canada in a world concerned with sustainablilty and the migrations of people.
The immigration committee quickly realized that the challenges of immigration interact with many areas of vital concern to Canadians and that immigration reform is an urgent first step towards a Sustainable Canada .
